South District Police gets a new Cyber Cell!
Namchi, 21st, August : With the advancement of technology, the nature of crime has also changed drastically and are now in the realm cyberspace. Criminals are increasingly using online technology to commit crimes sitting at safe distance and targeting individuals through sextortion, phishing, cyber frauds and other methods. Very often innocent individuals are tricked into giving their passwords and OTPs during online transactions. In order to tackle the issue of Internet related criminal activity at District level, the South District Police has taken the initiative to establish a Cyber Cell at District Police Headquarters, Namchi.
Cyber Cell of South District Police was set up and inaugurated at DHQ, Namchi by SSP South, Shri Thakur Thapa, IPS on 20.08.2021. DySP/Traffic, SDPOs, DySP/HQ, SHOs and other staff members were present at the opening ceremony. The Addl. Superintendent of Police, South will be the in-charge of Cyber Cell and will provide technical support to investigating officers of South District Police in solving cyber related crimes.
It will also provide training to subordinate staff members to deal with cybercrimes and raise awareness and provide strategies to the public on cyber security.
