Sikkim Police (South) wins the South District Inter-Department Football Tournament 2021 after a dramatic penalty shootout

Namchi, 12th December(IPR): The Final of South District Inter-Department Football Tournament 2021 was successfully concluded with a much enthralling performance held at Bhaichung Stadium, Namchi, today.
Minister of Forest Department Mr Karma Loday Bhutia graced the occasion as the chief guest. Present amongst others were DC(South) Mr M Bharani Kumar, Joint Director Sports Department Mrs Tshering Ongmu Bhutia along with the HODs and local spectators.
The 14-day long tournament was organised by the Sports and Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with District Administrative Centre, Namchi. The motive behind organising this tournament was to promote fitness as easy, fun and free.
The final match was played between Sikkim Police (South) against Sports Department (South). At the end of the match, both the teams had scored three goals each. To tiebreak the game, a penalty shoot-out was given in which the Police team converted three penalties against one goal of the other team.
The event also saw a women exhibition match between DAC/Sports Vs Police Department (South). Wherein, the former team scored one goal to register their win against the latter team.
All the participant’s teams were presented with mementoes by the Chief Guest. The chief guest also congratulated the winner and lauded the efforts of the runner-up team for displaying their talent.
Mr. Urgen Tshering Bhutia from Sikkim Police team was adjudged was the Man of the Match of the tournament.
It may be mentioned here that a total of 23 teams from various line departments of the district took part in the said tournament.
